EcoFreak Handmade Soap {Review}

In a current bundle that I bought from Bundles and Buzz there was a sample of soap from EcoFreak. I was VERY happy to see this as I have been wanting to phase out store bought soaps (Dove etc).

I started using it and I must say, I am very happy that I found it.

I have sensitive skin - and every time I shower, I break out in a funny red rash (more like red blotches). It doesn't matter how cool the water is, where I am showering - I just get a funny rash. I thought it was the type of soap I was using so I switched from my regular Dove to the sensitive one. No difference, so I just dealt with it.

While using EcoFreak's Handmade soap, I never had the red blotches after showering. YAY!! I just had smooth, soft and supple skin. It didn't feel filmy either. I'm a real stickler for having soap rinse clean. I even used it on J. It had oatmeal in it so it was a great exfoliater! It didn't dry my skin at all (Which is GREAT!) I have to say I was sad that I used it all. It probably lasted me close to 3 weeks for one bar of soap. Not to shabby...

The sample soap also came with a 25% off coupon for my next purchase and I put that to good use. I bought another 4 bars in various scents (Citrus Sage is the next one I am using - and it smells SO good) The ONLY downer for me is she is located in New Brunswick and I am in BC - so shipping is a killer. But totally worth it!

All in all EcoFreak makes a wonderful soap and I am glad I got the chance to try it out!

You can check out her website here: http://ecofreak.ca/ See what specials she has!

Monday - Ugh

I'm sorry I haven't been around much - or I should say sorry for the lack of posts. I've been so exhausted, and have been running around chasing J non stop! By the time he is in bed - I'm ready to hit the hay as well. But I can promise some new reviews soon.

The Rockin Green Femme Rock winner is: Entry #126 - ASHLEY COBBLE! Congratulations! She has been emailed and has responded.

I still have the Lunapads review and giveaway up - so make sure you get your entries in!

I'm really hoping to post more in the coming weeks. I have a lot to say and tell you but I just can't find the time!

Happy Monday

Weekend Plans

First off, I must say I am soo freaking happy it's Friday today. I feel like this week has gone on FOREVER! I'm so exhausted, and grumpy. I have to work tomorrow which is..poo..but it's ok.

I think today C and I are going to go and look for a new bed. I have had it with our old one. It squeaks, and it's super uncomfortable. It was given to us when we first moved out- so I think it's time to get a new one. Woohoo for that!

Tomorrow after work I think we are going out on a double date with our friends. It's been a while since we went out for dinner. So that should be nice. And on Sunday well.. I plan to do NOTHING!!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I know that this mama needs some rest.

Much love

Life is going to change!

Tomorrow C starts his fourth year of school. After these two months he will be fully ticketed and will no longer be an Apprentice Plumber! I am so so proud of him.

He is very nervous as this is the toughest year. But I know he will do great. He says the same thing every time he takes a course "Oh, I'll probably fail it" but he never does. His first 2 years he got high A's and last year he got a high B.

So what does C getting his ticket have to do with our lives changing?? Well, after his final year (well it's really only 60 days) we get to look to buy us a home! Well, start looking. This is something we have been dreaming about since we moved out together 4 years ago. We both hate renting so this is HUGE for us.

We know that we won't be able to buy an actual house right off the bat - as housing prices in Vancouver (and it's suburbs) are CRAZY expensive. But we do want a townhouse.

Looking for at least 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a nice size living room and a great kitchen. We don't need updates as this is something we would love to do ourselves. I've been planning this forever! I have so many ideas, paint colors etc. Home decorating is something I LOVE to do.

I can't wait to find our perfect home and make it our own. A place we can grow our family and settle down. C and I have moved four times in the last four years, and I only want to do it once more.

Here's to change

Much love

Lunapads Review & {Giveaway} CAN/US

I'm really excited about this next Mama Cloth company. Introducing Lunapads!

About Lunapads:

Lunapads International is a women-owned and operated social mission-based business based in Vancouver, Canada. Our goal is to help individuals have healthier and more positive experiences of their menstrual cycles, and by extension, their bodies overall. Lunapads' mission is to create more positive and informed relationships between menstruators, their bodies and the Earth. We embrace a global perspective, in terms of wellbeing and empowerment for women and girls, as well as toward our responsibility with respect to sustainability.
We believe that using natural menstrual products is a creative and empowering way to honor and care for ourselves and the planet. All of our products have been created or chosen based on our own unique needs and lifestyles (in other words, we use them ourselves, and have done so for years), and we are confident we can find a solution that will work for you. We are completely committed to customer service and want to ensure that your experience with Lunapads is a positive one. We love to hear from our customers, so please let us know how we can better serve you or how Lunapads has made a difference in your life.

Since 1993, Lunapads has been making their signature collection of menstrual products, Lunapads and Lunapanties. Lunapads were created by Madeleine Shaw (right), a fashion designer who realized she needed something to solve her own health concerns about using disposable pads and tampons.
Switching from tampons to cloth pads brought her the unexpected benefit of discovering a deeper connection with her body, and she set out to bring this gift to others in the form of starting a business.  She wrote the first business plan for Lunapads in 1994, and in 1995 opened a store and small production facility. By 1998, Lunapads were available in health food stores across Canada.
In 1999, Madeleine met Suzanne Siemens (left), a Chartered Accountant, at a Community Leadership course they were both participating in. Realizing that they shared a vision for better health for women and the planet, they combined their skills to fully develop Lunapads' potential. Lunapads are now used by thousands worldwide: as a result 1 million disposable pads and tampons are now being diverted from landfills every month. Lunapanties and Lunapads continue to be proudly made in Vancouver, Canada.

I was very happy when Lunapads agreed to let me review their Sampler Pack, PLUS they are donating a $50.00 Gift card to one of my very lucky readers!

So like I said I was sent their Sampler Pack, which contains 1 Mini Pantyliner & 1 Maxi Pad with 1 Maxi Basic Liner and 1 Maxi Wing Liner.

Left: MaxiPad, Liner insert, Wing Liner and Mini Pantyliner

Mini Pantyliner Review:
Their pantyliners are made up of, Cotton Flannel botton and is topped with a Cotton Fleece. They snap shut with a nickle free, silver plated brass single snap (which seem very durable to me. I'm not afraid that they are going to break) They are about 8" long.

They are meant for lighter period days. At the beginning of your cycle or can be paired with a tampon or the Diva Cup. I really liked the thinness of them. They were very soft and I barely noticed I was wearing it.

I really like that my pantyliner had a red top. I'm so picky about stains and after it got washed there were no traces of blood. Score! They washed really well and dried quickly. Definitely a great Pantyliner to add to your stash.

Lunapads offers a Free Sample Pantyliner to all new customers who are curious about cloth pads, but not quite sure whether they are right for them. Try a Lunapads Pantyliner risk-free, all you pay is the cost of shipping ($5): http://lunapads.com/sale/free-pantyliner-sample.html

You can't go wrong with that offer!!

Maxi Pad and liner review:
I didn't really get a chance to test this bad boy out as my cycle is all out of whack and I didn't need it. But I did wear it around the house just to get the feel for it. (I know I know.. Kinda crazy!)

First off, this is unlike any other of my mama cloth. You can add absorbency to this pad, which I think is great! Again it is made up of Cotton Flannel and topped with 2 layers of Cotton Fleece. There is also a thin layer of nylon to make sure there is no soaking through. See here on how these pads are made. They also have the nickle free, silver plated single snap.

They have a rick rack band on each end which allows you to add more absorbency. It came with a 2 layer liner insert as well as a winged insert. I can see how the maxi pad would be perfect for heavier flow days. And being able to add absorbency is brilliant, in my opinion.

Lunapads offer's a wide variety of sizes and styles. They have the Mini Pantyliner's and they also have a great looking postpartum kit as well.  To see all their kits go here

Overall, Lunapads surpassed my expectations. They were comfortable, well made and I love what they do.

Lunapads helps provide access to feminine hygiene for girls and women in developing countries with their Pads4Girls program: http://lunapads.com/about-us/donate-pads . Pads4Girls seeks to address an often-overlooked problem that hundreds of millions of girls and women in developing nations face: missing school or work for several days every month because they lack adequate means to manage their periods. Providing girls with sustainable menstrual supplies is a simple yet highly effective way to give them a chance for a better future.

Lunapads has been sending pads as donations to women and girls in developing nations since 2000, when we were contacted by Zimbabwean/Canadian activist Isabella Wright. She informed us that girls and women had little or nothing to help them manage their menses, and as a result were missing school or work rather than risking discomfort or ridicule. The effect of these missed days is devastating, with girls missing up to 20% of their education and thereby increasing the likelihood of dropping out, earlier marriage and pregnancy as well as limiting career options. Since that time, we have received and fulfilled similar requests from individuals and NGOs in numerous other African nations as well as Mexico and South and Central America.
General awareness of this issue received an immense boost in 2007 when Procter & Gamble’s Always brand launched the “Protecting Futures” campaign, featuring a series of television ads depicting African schoolgirls with the caption “There are lots of reasons kids miss school. Being a girl shouldn’t be one of them.” Critics immediately pointed out that providing girls with disposable pads would create a waste problem in communities that have no landfill or incineration capacity, and further would not be sustainable following the program’s conclusion after 2012, its stated end date. Either way, Protecting Futures brought awareness of the problem to a mass level, and resulted in a substantial increase in requests for Lunapads donations.
In February 2008 Green blogger Deanna Duke (aka Crunchy Chicken) launched the Goods4Girls program in response to the Protecting Futures campaign, recruiting Lunapads as well as numerous other companies and individuals to contribute pad donations. In January of 2009, however, she realized that she lacked the resources to effectively manage the program’s growing success and regretfully discontinued it. In early 2009, we decided to formalize our donations and the outreach Lunapads had been doing by calling it Pads4Girls, in homage to the Goods4Girls legacy.

I just love what they are doing. Helping women around the world. Very inpiring.

If you would like to purchase your own Sampler pack check out Lunapads at: http://lunapads.com/   OR try your luck and enter for your chance to win a $50.00 Gift Card!

I just wanted to thank Lunapads for everything! They really are a great group of women, who are making a difference in the world! Thank you ladies!

Friday!!

Yay for Friday! There are a million reasons why I love Friday but I don't have the time to tell you everything!! Hehe. First off - I don't work today so that means I can nap when J does! Simple I know but it makes my day. Also it means that tomorrow, C and J get to spend the day together while I am at work. I love when they get to spend time together.

I don't have to cook! Friday's are usually the one day out of the week that we order in. Whether it be Pizza, or Chinese food. Hmmm.. maybe we will have Greek tonight. Or Indian. I don't know yet. But what I do know is..someone else is cooking it!!

J and I if it's a rainy day (We live in Vancouver - there's a good chance that it's raining..will stay in our PJ's and watch movies, or listen to old music and color. But we keep it pretty low key for the day.

It's the weekend!! Hooray!!!

Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Much love
