Back to Basics with SweetPea Cloth Diapers {Review}

WAAAY back when - I wrote a post on how we started cloth diapering. My first ever cloth diaper purchase as a Bummis Starter kit - and while I loved the thought of prefolds and covers - they were just too darn bulky. I sold those and purchased some gDiapers and also some pockets. What I never got back to say was - how much I missed having prefolds and covers. I love them!

EcoBooty - is  was an online cloth diaper store that was local to me. She was having a store closing sale and I saw that she had some SweetPea prefolds and covers for 35% off - I jumped on that bandwagon and snatched up 6 baby sized prefolds, 3 One Size covers, a pack of flannel wipes and a couple of hemp boosters. I got a really REALLY  good deal on them.

I've been really wanting to try the SweetPea brand for some time now. I've read some great reviews on their covers and I must say - they have not let me down!

Their covers are a one size (you can buy newborn covers as well) but I decided since Graham is such a chunk we would go with one size. The covers offer a 3 set rise setting. Small, medium and large. Graham right now is on the medium setting. I really like that they have the cross over snaps. It's makes for a better fit, in my opinion.

The SweetPea One Size cover also has gussets. Now - if you read the blog and some of the diaper reviews you will know that I LOVE GUSSETS! This cover has held up against some of Graham's worst explosions. I have also used this cover for overnight and there has been ZERO leaks! I love me a cover with gussets.

Another feature that the SweetPea one size covers offers that I have not seen in really any other covers out there is a drying loop. At first I thought it was silly - but to be honest, it's a great addition to the diaper! I can hang the cover up after use to 'air it out' in-between uses. The fabric/PUL is so buttery soft. Not stiff at all. They have held up after many washes and the colors/prints are still vibrant.

Now I said that I bought some baby prefolds - I didn't know at the time that was the size I bought. Yes - I wasn't paying attention when checking out. (17x20 inches Weight is 16-35 lbs) They are HUGE. I'm not one to use snappis etc - so I am left with tri folding. At the moment they are a little too big to tri fold with Graham. It's ok though - I can use them in the coming months. I will do a review for them at a later time. I will say - they are SUPER thirsty.

The last item I bought from SweetPea was their flannel wipes. I believe they are a double flannel - surged with rainbow thread and they do a great job at cleaning up! These are in our small PlanetWise wet bag - that stays in the diaper bag. They are a perfect size to do a clean up. After a few washings they are soft and are delicate on Graham's little bottom. I only ever need one to use. Even if there is poop. The size is great. Not overly large but not itty bitty either.

Overall - I am HIGHLY impressed with the SweetPea products I have bought. If you are interested in purchasing your own SweetPea diaper products check out here. They have a list of retailers in Canada and in the USA.

I'd really love to try out their One Size diaper and wet bags as well. That's next on my list!

A must try brand! Their prices are competitive and the quality is awesome!!

Be sure to connect with SweetPea!

Sunday Funday on a Saturday

It was a B E A U T I F U L day Saturday in Vancouver! Chris and I decided we would go out as a family. He's been wanting to go to the Aquarium, as I took James last year and he was bummed he didn't get to go.

Now, I am always a little nervous going out with both the boys. We are still getting used to taking them both out. I don't know why it's so dang hard - but it is getting easier.

They both fell asleep in the car on the way there, and I was nervous James would wake up in a bad mood. He was ok at first. Then he lost Chris and got scared, so from that point on he stayed close. Graham was a peach. We got in - and he needed a feed so I sat down and fed him. I never fed James in public. I was too shy to do it - but with Graham things are different. Let me tell you - I got a lot of stares. Made me feel slightly uncomfortable but I got over it quick. My baby was hungry!

We brought the stroller for James and the Ergo for Graham. He LOVES being in it now! James was "so essited" to see the fish. He was running around looking at everything. He got a real kick out of the beluga. "So BIG!"  There was also a fish at the beginning that was swimming around and around in his tank and James was laughing so hard. It was so great to see him excited!

We walked all around - saw some pretty interesting looking fish, the sharks, a GIANT turtle. We went through the Amazon exhibit which was pretty darn cool. There were butterflies all around - a sloth and some cool looking rays. I also got to see the Otters - they are my favorite!

We had some lunch and finished off with the Arctic exhibit. We went through the gift shop as I always like to get James a little something - he chose a baby penguin to go with his big "Pendin" and a PINK Vancouver Aquarium cup.

I was VERY thankful that we went early. By 2:00 it was packed!

The city was CRAZY busy. It took us over an hour to get home. I was irritated. I hate sitting in traffic.

On our way home I suggested to Chris we stop off and pick up some treats. Now if you know me personally, you know I have a sweet tooth. A really really big sweet tooth. I love cakes and sweets like that. We stopped off a Pink Ribbon Bakery. Sheila (the owner) and Chris know each other from school. Sheila creates amazing cakes and cupcakes. We've been wanting to go get some for quite a long time but just haven't. Yesterday we treated ourselves to a dozen of Sheila's cupcakes.

Maple Bacon was one that Chris and I both were dying to try. Let me tell you - I was worth the wait.

BEST CUPCAKE I HAVE EVER HAD!

We got home, and I made dinner. We all relaxed for a bit - got the boys bathed and into bed. My original plan was to stay up and watch SNL, but Graham woke up around 10:00ish and needed a change and a nip. I then woke up at the clock read 2:54 am. So with the time change it was almost 4:00 in the MORNING! The TV was still on and Chris was asleep on the couch. I tried waking him up but it didn't work. I left him to sleep there!

Saturday was a great day. I love spending time with my boys - and I love to see them all happy.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend!!

Much love
xoxo

A Special Moment

I just wanted to share this picture that Chris took of James and I. It's not the clearest photo, but it was such a special moment he caught.

I was sitting in the computer chair, and James crawled into my lap and wanted to cuddle, He NEVER wants to cuddle. We sat together there for a good 20 minutes. He kept saying
"I love you too Mummy"
and just sat there.

My heart swelled with love.

My Favoite Dinner

I LOVE to cook. I've always loved to cook. I can remember the first time my Mom allowed me to heat soup on the stove - it didn't end well. I cranked the element to high and watched it turn bright red. I then proceeded to touch it with my middle finger. The ONLY reason it was my middle finger was so I could hold it up to show people. Yes, I am crazy - and NO - I do not know why I did that. I think I even blamed my sisters for it.

Anyways - I've come a long way from just heating soup on the stove. I rarely let Chris cook, just cause I love doing it so much.

I learned a lot from my Mum and Jock - as well as my Dad and my Grandma. In fact - for my 19th Birthday I received a handwritten cook book from my Grandma, with all her recipes.

By far my favorite thing to cook is Nachynka - a Ukrainian cornmeal casserole. SO GOOD.

I posted a series of photos on Instagram one day of my dinner. I made homemade cabbage rolls - nachynka and perogies which Chris and I made last month.

I love the versatility of my casserole - it goes well with anything really. Chicken, Pork etc. Plus its really not that hard to make!

What you will need:
  • 1/2 cup of Butter
  • 1 medium onion - chopped
  • 1 cup of cornmeal
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 1/2 cups of boiling water

What to do:
  • Melt butter in large skillet.
  • Add chopped onions and sauté until tender.
  • Add the cornmeal and fry for about 5 minutes. DO NOT BURN.
  • Pour in boiling water (a little at a time) and stir constantly
  • Add Salt and Pepper
  • Beat eggs and milk together and SLOWLY add to hot cornmeal mixture. Careful not to scramble the egg.
  • Once incorporated - pour into casserole dish and back at 350* for 45 - 60 minutes.

Let stand 5 minutes and serve!

ENJOY!
